It is that time of the year again when you deck up your house with fairy lights, add that much-needed pomp to your space and spend cheerful moments in the company of your friends and family. Then why go with the same old boring cocktails that you organise every year?

As you usher in the New Year and spread joy and happiness all around, make way for some delicious DIY cocktails to add to the spirit of the celebration. Simple and easy to make at home, these cocktails promise to add to the fizz and help you host the most memorable parties this year. Madras

Ingredients
  • Ice cubes
  • 45 ml Absolut vodka
  • 50 ml cranberry juice
  • 75 ml orange juice
  • Orange slices
Method
  • Fill a highball glass with ice cubes.
  • Add all the ingredients.
  • Garnish with orange pieces and serve.

Appleini

Ingredients
  • Ice cubes
  • 1½ parts Absolut vodka
  • ¾ part lemon juice
  • ⅔ part apple liqueur
  • ⅔ part apple juice
  • ¾ part simple syrup
  • Apple slices, for garnish
Method
  • Add all the ingredients with ice in a shaker.
  • Pour it in a glass, garnish with an apple slice and serve.

Kashmiri Saffron Sour

Ingredients
  • 60 ml Longitude 77 Indian Single Malt Whisky
  • 30 ml Kashmiri saffron syrup
  • 20 ml lime juice
  • 3 drops egg white / magic velvet
  • 1 lemon green
  • Some grapes
Method
  • Add the ingredients in a cocktail shaker and dry shake them.
  • Add ice and shake well.
  • Fine strain in a chilled Nick & Nora glass.
  • Garnish with saffron strands and chilli oil using a dropper and serve.
To Garnish
  • Kashmiri chilli oil
  • Kashmiri saffron strands

Alphonso Mango Smash

Ingredients
  • 60 ml Longitude 77 Indian Single Malt Whisky
  • 20 ml Alphonso mango juice
  • 15 ml lime juice
  • 20 ml mint syrup
  • 30 ml cow’s milk
Method
  • Add all ingredients in a cocktail shaker (except milk).
  • Add the ice and shake well.
  • Strain and add milk, then allow this to settle. Filter through a coffee filter.
  • Serve in an old-fashioned glass with ice block.
  • Garnish with mango slices or aam papad and serve.
To Garnish
  • Slices of Ratnagiri Alphonso mango Or Mango leather (aam papad)

Cold Brew Kick

Ingredients
  • 35ml Ballantine’s Finest Whisky
  • 15ml coffee liqueur (kahlua)
  • Cold brew coffee
  • 5ml sugar syrup
Method
  • Fill a shaker with ice.
  • Pour in Ballantine’s Finest, coffee liqueur, and simple syrup.
  • Top it with cold-brew coffee and shake it up.
  • Serve for the perfect wake-up call.

Chai-Tini

Ingredients
  • 120 ml Jacob’s Creek Sparkling
  • 60 ml lemon/ peach iced tea
Method
  • Ensure that the sparkling wine and tea are well chilled.
  • Mix into a chilled flute or tulip.
  • Garnish with lemon or peach and serve.
To Garnish
  • 1 wedge of lemon / peach

Strawberry Fling

Ingredients
  • 2 fresh strawberries
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 30 ml lime juice
  • 120 ml Jacob’s Creek unvined riesling
Method
  • Muddle strawberry and sugar.
  • Add unvined riesling and lime and shake together.
  • Double strain into a martini glass over a hibiscus flower.
  • Add strawberry to the side of the glass and serve.
To Garnish
  • Hibiscus flowers or half a strawberry

Sangria

Ingredients
  • 0.75 cup unvined shiraz
  • 1 star anise
  • Cinnamon quill
  • 2 cardamom pods
  • ¼ cup orange juice
  • Palm sugar to taste
Method
  • Bring wine and spices to just below a simmer.
  • Allow to cool in a punch bowl.
  • Add orange juice and sugar to taste.
  • Serve over ice with orange, apple and cinnamon.
To Garnish
  • Orange and apple slices
